Excessive use over many years can cause serious health problems.
The British manufacturer GlaxoSmithKline is removing Super Poligrip Original, Ultra Fresh and Extra Care products from U.S. shelves until they may be reformulated without zinc. The company maintains that the denture creams, when used as directed, are safe but some patients use excess cream for ill-fitting dentures.
Glaxo's voluntary action comes ahead of patient lawsuits alleging Poligrip caused nerve damage, leading to a loss of balance, loss of sensation in the hands and feet, and leaving patients unable to walk.
